Accredited Cookbook Author, TV Host, and Chef Backs Healthy Eating Campaign of the National Pasta Association and Kicks-Off National Pasta Month

New York (July 20, 2011) – The National Pasta Association (NPA) announced today that chef, author and television host Candice Kumai will serve as a consultant and spokesperson to its Pasta Fits campaign. Ms. Kumai, author of “Pretty Delicious,” co-host of Lifetime Television’s hit series, “Cook Yourself Thin,” chef contributor on the Cooking Channel’s “Unique Eats,” and Bravo’s “Top Chef” alumni, will support the NPA’s program conveying the message that pasta fits into a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, a weight loss program, a budget and a busy day.

“I’m thrilled to be working with the National Pasta Association on Pasta Fits and excited to celebrate National Pasta Month this October,” said Ms. Kumai. “Pasta is part of a balanced diet and can be prepared in so many appetizing ways. NPA’s program reflects my personal commitment to spreading the love of delicious food while educating people about maintaining a healthy diet that everyone can feel good about.”

The Pasta Fits campaign helps consumers to understand the role of carbohydrates, specifically pasta, in a healthy diet and in weight loss. A highlight of the promotion is the celebration of National Pasta Month in October. National Pasta Month observances will include the promotion of appetizing new pasta recipes, healthy diet tips and media appearances.

“We believe that Candice Kumai is the perfect ‘fit’ for our new campaign,” said Peter Smith, chairman of NPA and CEO of Ebro North America. “With her passion for educating consumers about healthy foods that are as delicious as they are nutritious, she embodies all the ideals of the Pasta Fits campaign.”

Candice Kumai, also known as the “Stiletto Chef,” made her way into the heart of Americans on Season One of Bravo’s “Top Chef.” She has since become co-host of Lifetime’s hit series, “Cook Yourself Thin” and helped create the show’s companion cookbook which became #1 on The New York Times Best Seller List. Candice is also chef-contributor on Cooking Channel’s “Unique Eats,” one of the expert hosts on TLC’s “Home Made Simple” and will be featured as a judge in the upcoming season of “Iron Chef America.” In February 2011, Candice released her first solo cook book, “Pretty Delicious,” which is being called “the most gorgeous health inspired cookbook ever published.” Candice has an immense understanding of the culinary arts, and recognizes how to make pasta taste great and still fit into the diet of the average American.
